Last spring I debated whether to sign M up for preschool or not. He was only 3 at the time, and still had two more years before he would be old enough to start kindergarten. My hesitation was in the fact that once I sent him to school, things would never be the same again. (You know, like having him home with me all day!) However, he has always been such a social creature and loved to get out of the house, so I felt preschool might be good for him. I also felt it would be good for him to have something of "his own--" something he could do without mom or dad. I also liked the idea of him having to learn and follow directions from an authority figure other than mom or dad. And, of course, the learning academically part would be great, too.
We found a lady who taught a 3-year-old only class that was only twice a week. I figured we could do two days a week, so we signed him up. There have been no regrets on our decision. Preschool has been so good for him! His teacher was wonderful. She is very loving, patient, fun, and organized. She really worked with the kids in a way that made them feel special and important.
Since we are busy living life over here, and I haven't found time to sit down and write about it until now, here is his first year of preschool in a nutshell!
We started off the first day of school with rainbow pancakes!
Here he is on "Funny clothes" day. He was really excited about wearing his funny outfit!
Here he is with Miss B at their Halloween program. He dressed as an old man...if you couldn't tell!
This is his Valentine's Day box. A red CASE tractor. Oh, and his red Gatorade mustache.
They had a 'P' party. The kids dressed up as pirates and princesses. They had pizza, purple punch, popcorn, etc.
This was their field trip to the fire station. Baby J and I got to go along for this one.
This was the first time I had really seen him interact with his teacher and classmates from school. He is full of energy (which he is at home, so makes sense he would be at school), likes to participate and laugh and be with friends.
He also thought the fireman doing the presentation was really, really funny!
Practicing "stop, drop, and roll."
At the end of the field trip, the firefighters got a call. So the kids were able to watch them leave with sirens on.
GRADUATION! M went first in the program. His part was, "Every day we started with the pledge of allegiance. We learned how to stand tall and straight and put our right hand over our heart. Will you please stand and repeat the pledge with us?"
Dancing and singing the songs they learned throughout the year.
This one cracks me up!
Here he is with some of his friends he made. He and the little guy on the left were able to play a few times throughout the year after school. M really enjoyed that.
Nana and Papa were able to come and watch him. Thanks for coming!
M, Mom, and baby J. Jake wasn't able to come; he had to be to work. He felt bad, but no one on his team can take off work during the month of May--it is an insane month for them.
What a fun year of school! He will have one more year of preschool and then he will go to kindergarten. We love you and are proud of the good boy you are, M!
