This year we went to my parent's house to enjoy Independence Day. We started out the day by going to the parade in the town I grew up in. They always do a fun 4th of July celebration, so the parade is always a must with the kids!
After the parade, we went to my parent's house where my Dad put his Father's Day gift to practice: his dutch oven cookers. He did a wonderful job! The food tasted so good! He cooked barbeque chicken, potatoes, and peach cobbler. Along with some other sides, it was a killer meal!
The kids did the sprinkler thing while he cooked. (K-man was taking his nap...)
While we were relaxing after lunch, we had a big scare with the four-wheeler. My Dad was taking the kids for a ride around the yard. My niece was sitting in front of my Dad, who was in the process of turning, and got her thigh lodged between the seat and the gas. Her thigh was pushing on the gas. My dad tried to get her leg dislodged but couldn't do it in time and they hit the side of the house. The rest of us in the house heard the loud thud and came running out, panicked and terrified, to see what had happened. We came out and the kids were screaming and crying.
Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully, the kids were all okay. Where they had been in the process of turning, they hit the house parallel with the four-wheeler. My Dad had stuck out his hand to try and stop some of the force of the hit. His hand landed on the window seal which cut his hand open pretty good. He also hit his elbow which was all sorts of bruised and swollen. Besides a trip to the emergency room for him, and a swollen lip for K-man, every one else was okay.
We realize this could have been much, much worse. So thankful there were no major injuries. Unfortunately, the four-wheeler was damaged. However, we'll take damage on the four-wheeler any day over a person. I remember a quote from Sister Hinckley that went something like, "If money can fix it, it isn't a problem." How true that is.
Jake and I left early with baby J to head home and get ready for her baby blessing. I think we caught all the firework shows in northern Utah from the freeway on the way home. We left M with my parents the rest of the weekend.
It was a wonderful day! I am so thankful to be an American!

oh, oh it's magic!
Miss J has started smiling a bit this week. It amazes me the feelings that come from such a small action. So thankful for this little bundle of joy.
m's motorcycle
M has really taken an interest in his "motorcycle" this summer.
We have a cement pad outside our door which has been a lifesaver. We don't get out much during the day with little Miss J, so it has been nice that he can go out and ride his "motorcycle" on it.
Here he is after church a few weeks ago. He changed out of his church clothes and headed straight out to ride his "motorcycle" wearing Jake's helmet, a pj shirt, gym shorts, and church shoes on the wrong feet. Oh yeah, and a little bloody nose...
He was pretty excited to see the farmer out working on his latest "motorcycle" ride.
He thought it was pretty cool the park had a motorcycle as well.
I sure do love this kid!

My how time flies! Our baby girl is a month old tomorrow. She decided to celebrate a little early today by rolling over onto her back during tummy time. What?! We sure do love her.

"check it out my new car"
M had a birthday this month. He turned 3. I still find it hard to believe he can be that old, but he is. He is at such a fun stage; I wish I could freeze time. But I can't. So instead I'll have to write about what I want to remember.
My nephew, Kehl, got a little tikes toy car for Christmas. Long story short, M was OBSESSED with it. Christmas day was a little rough when M realized this was not a car that Santa had brought for him, but rather, it was Kehl's car. Lucky for M, Kehl was a trooper to share it with him throughout the day.
So a few weeks later, when we were looking for a birthday gift for M, we eventually decided on a car like Kehl's. And, um, wow. Thank goodness we did. That car is M's baby. He used to come see me as soon as he would wake up. Now he goes straight for the car each morning. He spend hours, literally HOURS, in that thing each day. Often times when I ask him what he is doing while in the car he responds, "Just on a drive with Janice." Janice, fyi, is his imaginary cousin...
He loves to show it off, to me, in particular (probably because I'm the one he is with all day...) Constantly he asks me, "Mom, you want to come check it out my new car?!!" Yesterday, no joke, he asked me at least 75 times. Tidbit annoying, yes, but he just asks so sweetly and excitedly that it is hard to turn him down. So, many times throughout the day, I say, "Sure, let's go look at it!" To which he then runs and points to it and says, "It's right there!"
I then say, "How cool!" or "Whoa! Pretty neat!"
I then ask one or two of the following, "How do you start it?" "What color is it?" "Where do you fill it up with gas?" "How does the horn work?" To which he happily responds and shows me. We do the same thing over and over and over again. Yet, every time, he still smiles as if he had just won the lottery when I go "check it out his new car."
The best is when he tells me who gave it to him, "Daddy-O!" Not mom, not dad, but always Daddy-O.
Too cute. Love this little boy.
